Cats mainly living indoors spend a lot of time grooming to relax and keep their coats clean - but this often results in hairballs forming which can cause discomfort. They also tend to spend more time lying down and sleeping and are thus less physically active. As a result, their energy requirements can decrease and this makes indoor cats more prone to weight gain.
